TIL: a git worktree runs hooks from the main checkout .git/hooks, not its own files
I edited a pre-push hook in a worktree and nothing changed. Git was running the installed copy from the main repo.

TIL: a pipe into tail returns tail exit code, so a failed push looks like success
A failed git push piped into tail still exited 0, and the script moved on. set -o pipefail makes the pipeline report the failure.
